Ever stuck on what questions to ask during an interview? Asking questions in an interview is a great opportunity to show why you are a good candidate for a position. Being prepared with thoughtful questions will show that you are passionate about the role as well as organized and will help you get a better idea of what the company and role look like. It paints you as a more confident, assertive, and prepared individual. Stuck on which questions to ask??

There are so many questions you can ask pertaining to the different aspects of the company and the job:

About the position

  1. What are some of the challenges you expect the person in this position to face?
  2. Can you describe a typical day or week in the job?
  3. Can you show me some examples of projects I would be working on?

About your success in the position

  1. What are the most important things you’d like to see someone accomplish in the first 30, 60 or 90 days on the job?
  2. How will you measure the success of the person in this position?
  3. How might your expectations for this role change over time?

About the company

  1. How would you describe the company culture here?
  2. What type of people tend to thrive, and what types don’t?
  3. Where do you see the company in 5 years?

About training and development

  1. What training programs are available to your employees?
  2. What is a typical career path for this position?
  3. Are there opportunities for advancement or professional development?

About next steps

  1. What’s the timeline for next steps?
  2. Is there anything else that hasn’t already been addressed regarding my skills and experience that I can help clarify?
  3. Do you have any reservations about my qualifications?

About the work environment

  1. What do employees enjoy most about working here?
  2. What key values or attitudes does the organization look for in the people it hires?
  3. What is your favorite part about working here?

In an interview scenario it is important to remember that you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you! This is your chance to assess whether the position will be a good fit for you. Do this by evaluating what you would like to know before going into the interview to clear up any questions you have about the path forward.
